The HESI (Health Education System Incorporated) A2 exam is a computer based test that is usually used for numerous purposes by nursing schools. Many nursing schools use it as an entrance examination; many other institutions take it as an exit test to determine the candidates’ chances of passing the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX).

The exam is made up of 10 sub tests. Two of them are focused on learning and personality styles, and these do not count towards the final score of the candidate. Seven of the sub tests cover high school level topics in mathematics, verbal knowledge, and science. The exam questions cover basic mathematics problems, such as addition, multiplication, subtraction, fraction, ratios, decimals, measuremnts, and proportions. The students are not allowed to bring a calculator during the examination but the computer program comes with a standard calculator. The English section includes reading comprehension, general knowledge, vocabulary, and grammar.

The scoring mechanism of the HESI A2 exam varies among schools but many of them require a minimum of 75% score to be considered successful in the examination.
